    FAQs about Wheels

A sim racing wheel is purpose-built to deliver the most realistic driving experience possible. Unlike entry-level gaming wheels, sim wheels feature advanced force feedback systems (like direct drive), high-end materials (aluminium, carbon fibre, suede), and precise input accuracy. They’re engineered for immersion and performance, just like a real racing steering wheel.

If you’re serious about realism, go with a direct drive wheel. It delivers torque directly from the motor to the wheel with zero gear or belt interference. You’ll feel every curb, slip and chassis flex – just like an F1 driver does through the steering column. Entry-level setups typically use belt or gear drive systems, which are less precise but still great for getting started.

Today’s high-end sim racing steering wheels are often modelled after or even licensed from real motorsport hardware – same layout, same materials, same build quality. The main difference? One controls a car, the other controls a simulator. But with the right setup, you’ll have to remind yourself which one you’re in.

We recommend starting with a belt-driven sim wheel if you’re new to the grid but still want a quality feel. As you build confidence and carve better lap times, you can upgrade to a direct drive setup. At Simrigs, every recommended build is a launchpad – not a limit.
